Tea Tidbits

Tea's three ingredients-caffeine, L-theanine, and EGCG- have been proven to decrease your appetite and increase your metabolism to help you lose weight. -The Ultimate Tea Diet

There are really only three kinds of tea-robust black teas, made from the leaves that have been allowed to ferment, delicate green teas, which are steamed instead of fermented; and in between oolong teas, which are only partially fermented.

Sencha, the most popular Japanese tea, is perhaps the purest of all green teas.

From www.coffeetea.about.com: Apricot Sipper: heat 1 cup apple juice, 1 cup apricot nectar in a saucepan until boiling. Remove from heat and add 3 green tea bags. Steep two minutes. Strain and serve hot

Green tea contains one-sixth to one-eighth as much caffeine as coffee

Tea contains high levels of fluoride, which dentists believe at moderate levels of consumption can have a protective effect on teeth.

From "Wind in the Willows": Come along inside..we'll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place"

Types & Brands of Tea

Zhena's Gypsy Tea

Zhena's Gypsy Tea is is a manufacturer of organic free trade teas. On their can they say  that they are committed to trading fairly and living passionately. The workers  in the tea fields from which they harvest receive health care, guaranteed maternity leave, childcare and education. They go on to say "what comes with that is hope, true empowerment and fulfilled dreams. The Gypsy Tea Spirit is a caravan of consciousness changing the world one sip at a time" I love this philosophy!!! There are several exotic varieties.

Gypsy Love Tea

Made from Indian and Sri Lankan Black Tea and Sweet Rose Petals. This tea is made with exotic black teas for "a sweet and voluptuous cup of tea that is like drinking an iconnic signature scent of sensuality". I love the subtle rose flavor beneath the richness of the black tea. Drinking it evokes the romance in my soul! I found her teas at my local health food store. You can also check out their site at www.gypsytea.com

Oolong Tea
A smoky tasting strong tea that a lot of people tend to shy away from but if you are a coffee drinker you might find enjoyable especially if you don't over steep it. Also the fresher the tea is the less smoky and there are different varieties of it. It's worth a try because of the many health benerfits associated with it. I have listed some below.

Key Health Benefits of Oolong Tea

  • Large amounts of polyphenols found in oolong tea remove free radicals
  • Prevents skin damage such as dark pigmentation and liver spots that are caused by free radicals
  • Free radicals turn skin lipids that are supposed to keep the skin fresh into lipid peroxide and this accelerates the ageing process. By combating free radicals, the polyphenols found in oolong tea slow down the ageing process
  • Polyphenols enhance the function of enzymes
  • The polyphenols in oolong tea help to control obesity by activating the enzyme responsible for dissolving triglyceride (fatty deposits) and enhancing the function of fat metabolism
  • Chinese herbalists believe that oolong tea is highly effective in improving symptoms that are associated with weak kidney and spleen energy
  • Polyphenol helps reduce and prevents tooth decay

    Brewing Oolong Tea

Oolong tea should be brewed using water that is less than boiling. So if your water has already come to a boil let it rest for 20 seconds or so and tehn pour over your leaves. Ooolong tea can be brewed three times per serving!
